OFF! go off.

So when I first heard about this new LA supergroup - I was hesitantly intrigued. Usually these kinds of arrangements go horribly wrong... But I had to see for myself. I hustled my way down Red River to catch them at Emo's and BOY HOWDY was I stoked to find out OFF! RULES. For only their 2nd show EVER they performed some of the most raging, tight knit, high quality, perfect hardcore I've heard in ages! Made up of Steven McDonald (bass), Keith Morris (vocals), Dimitri Coats (guitar), and Mario Rubalcaba (drums), OFF! fucking brought it. So yeah I'm in. Count me among the fans of this project. Can't wait to hear a record. You dudes ARE making a record right? Definite highlight from SXSW this year.

(The below pictures were taken by a dude named Brian Reilly at their Beerland show that I didn't go to. You can see more here: Brooklyn Vegan.)

The Stooges

Iggy and the Stooges are being inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame. I have mixed feelings. In a way it kind of puts the nail in the coffin of the most amazingly dangerous band of all time. I mean, congrats to Jim Osterberg and crew but to me it just feels so sterile and anti everything the Stooges have meant to me... but on the flip maybe more people get turned on to Funhouse... and that's never a bad thing. I'm not sure how I feel about this...

Anyway, here's footage of the Stooges during more dangerous times:

This Moment In Black History

The music part of SXSW is coming up and I'm getting excited to finally see one of my favorite current punk bands, Ohio's This Moment In Black History. I first heard them when my friend Sam released their debut LP, "It Takes A Nation (of Assholes To Hold Us Back)", on his label Cold Sweat a few years back. I was stoked to receive a promo copy of their follow up, "Public Square" on Smog Veil Records - it's pretty gnarly and totally rad. I definitely suggest picking it up - and if you plan on being in Austin check em out at one of the following dates:

March 18th 4pm @ Apparition Skateboards 119 E North Loop
March 19th 3pm @ Plush 617 Red River St
March 19th 4pm @ The Parlor 100 West North Loop Blvd
March 20th 3pm @ Creekside Lounge 606 East 7th St (I'll be there!)
