My 10 Favorite Films of 2014

2014 was a rich year for movies, making the task both easier (quantity) and more difficult (seeing everything and making choices). So, here are the 10 films that got me the most excited, already feeling guilty for not including such great ones as Fury, Boyhood or A Most Violent Year. Nuff babbling, here you go:

1. Whiplash

2. Foxcatcher

3. Locke

4. Birdman

5. Jodorowsky's Dune

6. Nightcrawler

7. Metro Manila

8. The Imitation Game

9. Manos Sucias

10. Obvious Child

Tombs meet Bowie.

Post metal greats (and boutique coffee roasters) Tombs turn out a killer cover of the Christiana F. version of Bowie's classic Heroes. Loving this. Oh and if you haven't seen Christiana F., check it out as it's one of the coolest junkie flicks ever featuring a super gnarly shooting up scene and even gnarlier cold turkey sequence. Watch it here for free while it lasts! True grit! Aces!

SXSW 2015 Panel

So if you should find yourself wading through breakfast tacos, UT students, music biz friends and Lone Stars on March 20th - swing by our SXSW panel, "The Truth About Music Supervision". I'm moderating a discussion with my pals Rudy Chung (Pusher / Hit The Ground Running), Joe Rudge (Silent Partners) and Chris Clark (Leo Burnett) all about how our gig really works. I'm really looking forward to it! Info is here: http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_MP32535

See you in Austin!

50 Years of Subterranean Homesick Blues.

There is a fantastic entry on Dangerous Minds today celebrating the 50th (!!!) anniversary of Bob Dylan's classic song "Subterranean Homesick Blues"- recorded today in 1965... it's a great quick read and what better way to spend 2 minutes and 17 seconds than listening to one of the greatest songs in rock history...

John Lurie on Aquarium Drunkard

Pretty great when one of your heroes shows up on one of your favorite websites. I'm a massive fan of John Lurie's work - his records with the Lounge Lizards, Jarmusch scores and roles, and of course the unbelievable Fishing With John. Amazing artist and a really cool interview... check it out here. And if you aren't already, start visiting Aquarium Drunkard on the regular!

Happy William S. Burroughs Day!

You could celebrate the birth of "Old Bull Lee" with us by getting super drunk and high on benzedrine and playing William Tell with yer wife in Mexico OR you could just watch this awesome documentary, whatever you're into...

That one time Nick Cave, Chrissie Hynde, and John Cale...

Dangerous Minds does it again - my favorite website has dug up this awesome 1999 BBC Songwriter's Circle featuring Nick Cave, Chrissie Hynde and John Cale. Hard to think of a better way to spend an hour...
