Zombie Zombie - Driving this road until death sets you free

Yes. Big Yes.

Now this is just too awesome. Funhouse might be my favorite, but this record is neck and neck for 2nd greatest along with Kill City (If you count that as a Stooges record...) Kudos to Sony for doing the right thing and giving this classic album its propers. The "Limited Deluxe" Re-issue features:

-Raw Power - Original 1973 David Bowie Mix (Out of print for over a decade)
-Georgia Peaches Disc - The previously unreleased one hour performance at Atlanta's notorious rock club Richards in October 1973, plus 2 Bonus Studio Tracks, "Doojiman" & "Head On
-Bonus Disc of Rarities, Outtakes and Alternate versions from the Raw Power era.
-48 page softcover book with essays by Henry Rollins, Brian J Bowe and Kris Needs; plus testimonials by Tom Morello, Slash, Lou Reed, Jim Jarmusch, Cheetah Chrome, Jim Reid, Perry Farrell, Hugo Burnham and more.
-5 exquisite 5"x7" square prints, suitable for framing
-Japanese 7" picture sleeve reproduction of "Raw Power" b/w 'Search And Destroy
-SEARCH AND DESTROY: IGGY & THE STOOGES' RAW POWER" DVD documentary by Morgan Neville featuring new interviews with Iggy Pop, James Williamson, Scott Asheton, Mike Watt, Johnny Marr and Henry Rollins; plus live performance footage from Festival Planeta Terra, Sao Paulo Brazil - November 2009

Um can I get a fuck yes?

You can order it here. (Big ups to my friend Scott for the tip!)

Do not sleep on this.

LA punk rock supergroup OFF! (who were a serious highlight for me at SXSW) are performing their first LA show on Sunday May 2nd and the 6th Street Warehouse downtown! Plus free beer! Plus DJ set by Tony Alva! Plus artwork by one of my heroes Raymond Pettibon. Must do. Serious must do. See all the info here.

Tahiti Boy & The Palmtree Family

One of our favorite new bands will be performing in LA and NYC this week and next week! Tahiti Boy & The Palmtree Family play music thats even bigger than their collective seven members... coming off like Built To Spill at one moment and Roxy Music the next, these Parisians' latest album "Good Children Go To Heaven" will feel right at home nestled next to your dusty Olivia Tremor Control and Apples In Stereo records.

Go see them at one of these fine establishments:
April 24th @ Piano’s in NYC -- more info here.
April 25th @ Zebulon in Brooklyn -- more info here.
April 27th @ The Echo in Los Angeles -- more info here.
April 28th @ New Noise party/ Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood -- more info here.

And check them out at their myspace page here.

RIP Guru. Gang Starr Forever!

Guru, aka Keith Elam, aka Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

A cornerstone of Hip Hop, GURU brought it to the next level. With his Jazzmatazz series he merged Hip Hop and Jazz and hit it out of the park. Long Live GURU Gang Starr and Primo! Gonna miss that monotone for sure. Check out some dope Gang Starr videos in tribute!
